Meet Nicole!

Originally from Newfoundland & Labrador, Nicole now lives in Nova Scotia where she’s been a Maritime Travel advisor for more than 25 years. When it comes to Eastern Canada, Nicole’s passion for the region is unmatched. Guests rave about her caring manner, wonderful local stories, little surprises, and the fun she adds to the travel experience.

“Having Nicole – a Newfoundlander – be so knowledgeable about all the places we went was a bonus. The small villages were a treat to see – we would not have known about all the history and culture without such a fantastic guide… Being on the ocean, breathing the air, seeing the incredible landscape were highlights, but so were the whales, icebergs, puffins and the friendliness of the folks in the hotels and restaurants… Some very lucky people will sign up for this tour next season!” – 2025 guest comments

Itinerary

Upon arrival in Halifax, make your way to our first hotel, ideally located in the downtown core. Join your Tour Director for a Welcome Reception at the hotel this evening to meet your traveling companions and learn further details of the adventure ahead. Your Tour Director will provide you with a luggage tag at this time. R

Enjoy an American breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant; the rest of the morning at leisure to explore Downtown Halifax and grab a light lunch before our early afternoon departure to North Sydney, stopping on route for an included dinner. Nothing quite matches the experience of arriving in Newfoundland in the original way – by sea. We will board a relaxing overnight Marine Atlantic Ferry to Port-aux-Basques, NL., with private cabins equipped with its own bathroom. PLEASE NOTE: As there is no baggage handling on the ferry, we recommend that you plan to leave your suitcase on the coach during the crossing and pack your carry-on with anything you might need overnight. B D

Start the day with a delicious breakfast in Port-aux-Basques before driving through the Codroy Valley. Our journey continues through Gros Morne National Park – to be further enjoyed later in your tour – for a late lunch at Rocky Harbour. Continue through the Park to the fishing community of Port au Choix and visit the Port au Choix National Historic Site, before checking in to your accommodation for the night. B L D

Watch for whales as we ferry across the Strait of Belle Isle to the shores of Labrador. Here we will visit the recently discovered Whaling Station at Red Bay National Historic Site. Learn about the “modern” techniques used in the 1500’s by the tenacious Basque whalers. Visit the Point Amour Lighthouse stop with an opportunity to climb to the top of the lighthouse for a breathtaking view and enjoy a boxed lunch. Later in the afternoon, we continue to L’Anse aux Clair where we will spend the night. B BL D

Today we return to the island of Newfoundland and make our way to St. Anthony with a stop at the Grenfell Historic Properties to learn about the famous medical missionary, Sir Wilfred Grenfell. Tonight is an evening of food and fun at the Great Viking Feast at Leifsburdir. B D

After a leisurely breakfast we embark on a whale watching tour (weather permitting) with a local biologist and wildlife expert -a great opportunity to see whales, dolphins, sea birds and sea caves. If you’re lucky, you may even see icebergs drift down Iceberg Alley, then on to L’Anse aux Meadows National Historic Site, the first cultural discovery in the world recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Learn of the Vikings who settled here over a thousand years ago before traveling to Cow Head in Gros Morne National Park where you will spend the next three nights.
B BL D

Today we return to Gros Morne National Park to visit the Broom Point Fishing Exhibit and learn about the fishery of the past, present and future. Then on to Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse, marking the marine approach to Rocky Harbour and the entrance of Bonne Bay since 1897. After lunch in Rocky Harbour, why not take an easy hike to Western Brook Pond and see the inland Fiords with an opportunity to experience an optional Boat Tour. Enjoy dinner at our hotel this evening. B L D

Today will be an unforgettable experience as we discover why Gros Morne National Park is truly one of the highlights of this vacation. It is said that the scenery that we are about to see is unequaled in Canada as we embark on a boat tour (weather permitting) on the fjords of Bonne Bay inside the park. This scenic tour will familiarize you with the incredible geology of the Tablelands and the history of the villages nestled along the shores; be on the look-out for whales and bald eagles! B PL D

We will depart Gros Morne early this morning. A scenic drive along the rocky coast of Notre Dame Bay leads us to the beautiful outport of Twillingate. Explore the Twillingate Museum and visit the Auk Island Winery. Dinner is at the main hotel this evening. B D

We head out on the Trans-Canada Highway and travel through Terra Nova National Park, the most easterly of Canada’s beautiful national parks. Keep your camera close at hand for wildlife along the way. Learn about the hard life of the light keepers at Cape Bonavista Lighthouse Provincial Historic Site. This afternoon stroll through the lanes of the charming town of Trinity; see several historic buildings including both a typical early 20th century rural merchant’s house and a counting house. Later, we will arrive at our Trinity hotels for the night and enjoy the historic charms and comforts of this authentic accommodation. B L D

Today we continue to the capital city of St John’s. We will arrive in time for you to enjoy some free time exploring the downtown area and have lunch on your own. Later, we will journey to the town of Bay Bulls for one of the highlights of your trip, a boat tour to the Witless Bay bird sanctuary (weather permitting). We will return to St. John’s where will enjoy a two-night stay with a traditional Jiggs dinner tonight. B FD

This morning, we will enjoy an intriguing city tour. See the Victorian architecture of the downtown area, the busy modern waterfront, the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, Confederation Building, and the panoramic view from Signal Hill. We will also visit the most easterly point in North America, Cape Spear National Historic Site. The remainder of the day is free to explore on your own. B

Depart St. John’s. Following breakfast, it will be time to check out from your hotel. Arrangements end upon check-out. We hope that you have enjoyed travelling with us and that we will see you again soon!
