Meet Pete
Celebrity Grocer, Farmer, and Vintner Pete Luckett (Pete’s Fine Foods, Luckett Vineyards) has spent decades cultivating his taste of great food, fine wine, great people and new horizons.
Pete built one of Atlantic Canada’s best known and loved brands – Pete’s food markets. He is known and loved across the country after years appearing on national television: CBC, CTV and The Food Network. His food adventure television series, The Food Hunter, aired internationally.
Before moving to the Azores, Pete hosted nine Maritime Travel small group foodie adventures to Italy, Argentina, Spain, South Africa, Portugal, and beyond. We’re thrilled to have him welcoming our guests to his amazing new home.

Saturday, May 1 – Arrival at São Miguel Airport
You will be met for your private transfer to Idônea. There will be time to rest for the remainder of the morning before we join Pete for a Welcome Brunch. This afternoon we will get a brief taste of the lush, exotic local landscape when we journey to nearby Furnas, in the heart of São Miguel’s volcanic countryside. We’ll visit Terra Nostra Botanical Garden, a romantic 18th-century garden renowned for its spectacular subtropical vegetation and naturally heated thermal pool. You may wish to enjoy a relaxing soak in the mineral-rich waters. This evening we’ll enjoy a Welcome Dinner at Idônea – a four-course dinner with wine pairing. L D
Sunday, May 2 – Following breakfast we will discover breathtaking Sete Cidades, with its vibrant green hills and dramatic volcanic scenery. We will enjoy lunch at Lagoa Azul Restaurant before visiting the picturesque coastal village of Mosteiros, known for its striking black volcanic-sand beach. Don’t forget your camera! This is one of the island’s most photogenic coastal stops. Tonight we will enjoy a light dinner at Idônea, before gathering for Wine and Stories with Pete! B L D
Monday, May 3 – The northeastern corner of São Miguel is one of the island’s most unspoiled areas, with mountains, deep valleys, waterfalls, lush vegetation and flower-filled views overlooking the Atlantic. Following breakfast we’ll head out to explore with our local guide. Our first stop will be at Europe’s oldest tea plantation – Gorreana. We’ll stroll among the tea fields, learn about tea production and enjoy a tea tasting. We’ll then make our way to “Fire Lake” – Lagoa do Fogo – one of the area’s greatest natural wonders. The lake lies within a spectacular volcanic crater. This evening we will enjoy dinner back at Idônea. B D
Tuesday, May 4 – This morning we will discover the island’s capital and largest city, Ponta Delgada. Stroll at your leisure as you experience historic Portuguese architecture, elegant squares, churches, cafés, shops and a lively waterfront. Lunch is on your own. Later this afternoon we return to Idônea. This evening we’re in for a treat as we enjoy a Portuguese Wine Experience with Pete. We’ll sample six spectacular wines personally curated by Pete. We’ll also enjoy regional cheeses, charcuterie and local specialties. B WT
Wednesday, May 5 – Today join our local guide as we return to Furnas, where we visited briefly on our first day – but this time for an incredibly unique food experience. Along the shores of Furnas Lake, the earth literally cooks. Local chefs place traditional pots of meat and vegetables (cozido) into the naturally heated volcanic ground, where the dish slowly cooks for several hours. We’ll enjoy a traditional “cozido” lunch. After lunch we’ll explore the picturesque fishing village of Ribeira Quente. Later you may wish to experience a restorative thermal bathing experience at Poca da Dona Beija. Before returning to Pete’s place, we will enjoy dinner at Queijaria Furnense for a true taste of the Furnas area. Our delicious meal will focus on farm-to-table produce prepared using local culinary traditions. B L D
Thursday, May 6 – This is a completely free day… Spend the day relaxing at Idônea, enjoying the infinity pool, gardens and surrounding area. Or you may wish to choose an optional activity on your own – whale watching, kayaking, golf or an ATV tour. This evening we’ll enjoy a Chef’s Barbecue Dinner with Pete. B D
Friday, May 7 – Following breakfast, the balance of the morning is at leisure to enjoy the property. Then we will have a Garden-to-Table Cooking Demonstration with Pete’s Executive Chef, transforming Pete’s fresh, seasonal ingredients into a delicious meal. You can simply observe, or join in the preparations! We’ll then enjoy a delicious meal… the fruits of our work. The afternoon is on your own to relax and enjoy Idônea. This evening we will gather with Pete for a Farewell Dinner where we’ll raise a glass to new friends, new fun and memories for a lifetime. B L D
Saturday, May 8 – Our morning is at leisure. After a light lunch, your private transfer will be ready to take you to the airport for your return flight home.
