Itinerary

Set out on a holiday adventure through the iconic capital cities of Central Europe – Prague, Vienna, and Budapest. Along the way, immerse yourself in festive Christmas markets, enjoy traditional entertainment, sample local cuisine, and glimpse this region’s rich history.

Ancient landmarks and medieval architecture – your tour begins in Prague, the “City of 100 Spires.” With no scheduled activities today, spend your time as you wish, exploring the city independently.

This evening, gather with your fellow travellers for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. (B, D)

Experience the magic and wonder of Prague during the holiday season. Your introduction to this fairy-tale city begins with a panoramic tour. Explore the “Castle District,” including the gothic St. Vitus Cathedral and the majestic Prague Castle. Marvel at the iconic, statue-lined Charles Bridge, a picturesque structure stretching over the Vltava River. Spend the rest of the day taking in the best Prague has to offer independently. Visit the renowned Christmas market in Old Town Square filled with artisan crafts, festive food, and warm holiday drinks. (B)

Travel to Dresden, Germany, known as “Florence on the Elbe.” Join a local guide for a tour highlighting its Baroque architecture, including Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) and the Royal Palace. Visit the Striezelmarkt, the world’s oldest Christmas market, dating back to 1434. Enjoy free time exploring the stalls overflowing with ornaments, sample local sweets, and get lunch on your own before returning to Prague later in the afternoon. (B)

Depart Prague and travel through the scenic countryside toward Vienna, Austria. En route, stop in the medieval town of Ceský Krumlov. Explore its charming cobblestone streets and impressive castle independently, with time for lunch on your own. Continue onward to Vienna, where you’ll enjoy dinner at a traditional Viennese restaurant known for its historic ambiance and classic Austrian cuisine. Arrive in the grand city of Vienna, aglow with holiday lights. Perhaps you’ll join your Tour Manager for an evening stroll. (B, D)

This morning, meet your local guide for a combined scenic bus and walking tour of Vienna’s city centre, showcasing grand architecture, scenic parks, and Gothic spires that fill the city. Get a taste of Vienna’s sweet confectionary history when you visit a family-owned candy workshop. See where candies are still being made according to traditional recipes dating back over 150 years. Enjoy free time in the afternoon to visit the Christkindlmarkt. Perhaps the biggest and most famous in the city, it is set at the neo-gothic Rathaus City Hall. Tonight, experience an unforgettable evening at Schönbrunn Palace as you stroll through the Christmas market, explore the palace after-hours, and enjoy a concert in the Orangery. With its Christmas market, the Parade court in front of the Schönbrunn Palace becomes a winter wonderland and bustling Christmas extravaganza. Inside the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace, take a special after-hours, audio-guided tour of the largest palace in Austria, once the summer residence of the Habsburg emperors. Away from the crowds, discover rooms filled with paintings, sculptures, and tapestries. Your palace tour concludes in the breathtaking Great Gallery, a Rococo masterpiece of gilt décor, ceiling frescos, and chandeliers. Then, the Schönbrunn Palace Orchestra awaits you in the Orangery with a concert featuring music from Mozart and Johann Strauss, as well as vocal performances. (B)

Travel to Bratislava, the former Imperial capital of the Habsburg Empire. Enjoy free time for lunch, exploring historic streets, and visiting charming Christmas markets. Continue into the Hungarian countryside for a cultural experience at a rustic local restaurant. Learn how to make traditional Hungarian strudel before indulging in typical Hungarian fare for dinner. Later this evening, arrive in Budapest, the “Queen of the Danube,” and your home for the next two nights. Enjoy the evening on your own or join your Tour Manager for an evening walk. (B, D)

This morning, choose how you want to experience Budapest with an expert local guide because it’s your choice! Embark on a classic Budapest city tour, where you’ll visit highlights like the Fisherman’s Bastion and pass the historic Old Buda -OR- retrace Budapest’s musical history throughout the city before visiting The House of Music Hungary. Enjoy free time this afternoon to explore Budapest’s Christmas markets, St. Stephen’s Basilica, or Vörösmarty Square, brimming with food and crafts stalls where local musicians often perform. This evening, celebrate the journey with your fellow travellers at a farewell dinner. (B, D)
