Our recent three-week family trip to Europe was a whirlwind of history, pastries, and unforgettable memories. Starting in Paris, hopping over to London, and ending with a visit to family in Milton Keynes, our journey was as much about discovery as it was about bonding.
We kicked things off with a direct Air France flight from Vancouver to Paris, which was fantastic.
The first four nights in Paris were a sensory delight—fresh pastries, sidewalk cafes, and a deep dive into the city's iconic landmarks. We explored the Opera House, Sacre-Coeur, Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, and even the Catacombs (a highlight for our 12-year-old daughter, who had it at the top of her bucket list!). She also had a blast at the Galeries Lafayette, where she took part in the Jellycat experience.
Next, we hopped on the Eurostar to London—a smooth and efficient ride, though the Paris terminal was a bit of a circus. Once in London, we packed in the sights: Buckingham Palace, Hyde Park, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Tower Bridge, and the Tower of London. We added some family fun with the Jurassic Park Experience and the spooky Haunted Ghost Bus Tour. Getting around by double-decker bus and Tube added to the experience—there's nothing quite like seeing London from the top deck!
We then drove to Milton Keynes to spend time with family (yes, we managed to stay on the correct side of the road!). While there, we explored the local area and visited Whipsnade Zoo, which was a big hit.
Returning to Paris felt like coming home. We knew our neighborhood, the bakery staff remembered us, and we fell into a comfortable rhythm. We made day trips to Versailles and the Louvre, but also spent time simply wandering the streets, shopping, and soaking up the Parisian vibe.
Three weeks was a long time to be away, but the memories we made—from the top of the Eiffel Tower to the underground tunnels of the Catacombs—will stay with us forever.
