An Interview With Leana Anderson

How many years have you been selling travel?

Since I was a teen I loved travel… Geography, planning, learning about and exploring new places. Having family in New York and visiting often, I fell in love with that city. I took tourism in high school and knew then that travel was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. It doesn't feel like work when you get to do what you love. I have now been in the industry since 2001, and have worked in a number of capacities including corporate and leisure, after hours emergency assistance, regional training and marketing.

What are your hobbies?

Travelling of course... Music, photography, spending time with friends and family, and trying new foods.

What type of resort activities do you favor? ie water sports, lounging by the pool, etc?

Lying on the beach with a good book is relaxation at its best, but I can't do that for an entire week,  I like to get in the water too! The watersports I like are wake boarding, jet skiing, snorkeling, and I have been known to play in the waves from time to time.

What are your favorite destinations?

There are so many....how to narrow them down.... well the South Pacific, and there are so many places in Europe....Barcelona is amazing but Italy is #1 in my heart as I am Italian

What languages do you speak?

English is the only language I am fluent in.

Do you have a family? and if so what type of family travel have you done?

Was married in 2009. We had a wonderful honeymoon for 10 nights at the Royal in Playa del Carmen, in the Mayan Riviera. We welcomed our first son into our lives in May 2014 and travelled to New York, and Maui in the first year. In May 2017 we had our second son and travelled to New York, Palm Springs and Mexico. Summer time has included lots of trips with our travel trailer around the province and into Washington.

  • " Occidental Grand Flamenco Xcaret We arrived at the Cancun airport on Sunday April 1st around 4:30pm-we were warned it would be crazy busy and it was. It took us about 2 ½ hours to get through and then another hour to get to the resort but it was well worth it.   Check-in: Went fairly smooth and quickly.  We were greeted by a hostess immediately when we got off the Air Canada transporter bus, offering us a non-alcoholic fruit punch. Nice touch.   Rooms: We had read reviews on trip advisor in advance so we knew what could go wrong ahead of time.  We had read reviews that stated building 12 was musty smelling and smelt a bit like raw sewage.  Guess what, we were booked into the ground floor of building 12!  We went in with open minds but my husband immediately said he could not stand the smell and we needed to get another room.  We went to the front counter to advise them of this and they moved us to the 2nd floor in the same" - Theresa
  • " We had a great time. The resort is incredibly beautiful, the pool winds through the property surrounded by palm trees and jungle. The walkways also wind through the vegetation, with wild animals like peacocks, swans and guinea fowl right beside you, no matter where you go you can hear birds singing. The kids loved the pool, parts of it are only 2.5 ft deep so Katherine, at 4 yrs old,  was ecstatic she could stand in many places, the two kids spent hours in the pool each day. We were usually pulling them out after the sun had set.  The beach was also nice - wide with lots of sand and palapas. We had red flags for half the time, yellows for the rest. But we let the kids play in the edge of the surf and they were fine. There are ample chairs around the pool and on the beach but it was a towel game most days to get a place in the shade, the resort didn't stop people from reserving seats but also told people it there was only a towel on an unoccupied chair they could remove it" - Kathy

  • "Thank you! Headed for bed now as I am exhausted but it was an amazing time including the Inca trail hike! Machu Picchu is more impressive than the pictures suggest. Truly amazing! Thank you for the help with all the bookings. We didn't have a single issue that wasn't reasonably resolved. The weather didn't agree in Rio so they didn't go hang gliding but otherwise everything on the wish list was accomplished and then some. " - Lenora
