Vancouver Island/Johnstone Strait

Year: 2016

"Imagine waking one morning to the sound of a humpback whale’s blow as it swims past your ocean-side tent. Later that same day watch in awe as a pod of killer whales, also known as orcas, swim past your kayak as a bald eagle swoops down to catch a salmon. This can all happen on a “Kayak With Whales” base camp kayak tour with Kingfisher Wilderness Adventures."

In August of 2016, my husband and I had the pleasure of doing a kayak trip with Kingfisher Wilderness Adventures.  It was a fantastic experience -  with orcas and humpbacks in close proximity as well as sea lions, seals, eagles & some of the most breathtaking scenery on the planet.  Our base was on Hansen Island which we reached by boat, with accommodations that were very comfortable (tents for 2 on raised platforms with cots) and fabulous food cooked for us by our amazing guides.

We kayaked for 6 to 8 hours a day with a diverse group of people from Canada, Australia and Finland.    It is was a very memorable trip!
