Charline is an expert on all things Italian, and has been to Italy more than 30 times – on her own, with her wine-expert husband, and hosting groups. “I feel more at home in my beloved Italy, than I do in Canada,” she will tell you. Charline loves to share her secrets… whether it’s a favourite restaurant where she’s friends with the owners, the best little gelato shop, or the best shoe store in town. Charline speaks Italian, English and French.

WEDNESDAY, MAY 27 – Overseas travel to Rome, Italy.

THURSDAY, MAY 28 – Arrive at Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci International Airport. You will be met by a Maritime Travel representative at the International arrivals area. From there, you will be provided a transfer to the small, picturesque lakeside town of Castel Gandolfo, just 15 kilometres south of Rome, and summer retreat of popes through the ages. After checking into our hotel, the balance of the afternoon is yours to rest and rejuvenate. Later this evening we will meet up with Charline at one of her favorite restaurants and enjoy a welcome dinner with wine as we get to know our fellow travelling companions. D

FRIDAY, MAY 29 – Following breakfast at our hotel, we are in for a rare treat – a visit to the Papal Palace, only recently opened to the public, and summer home of countless popes. Our favorite private guide, Cinzia Cortese, will reveal its fascinating story. The balance of the day is free on your own to explore enjoy this charming town with its stunning views of Lake Albano. Supper and the balance of the evening will be on your own. Be sure to get some suggestions from Charline, or perhaps join her. B

SATURDAY, MAY 30 – This morning, after breakfast, we check out and make our way to Tuscany, where we’ll stay for the next 5 nights. Enroute we will stop at the small Roman hamlet of Bagno Vignoni, known for its centuries-old, natural, thermal baths. There will be free time to explore. Lunch is on your own. We continue on to our main destination, Pienza, one of Italy’s prettiest hilltop towns and our home for the next 2 nights. The area is known for its delicious Pecorino Cheese. After checking into our hotel, we will visit a local farm where we will enjoy a cheese making demonstration and a light supper with wine before returning to our hotel for the evening. B D

– Today is a free day to explore the charming medieval town of Pienza, with its lovely shops, beautiful views, and the historic Palazzo Piccolomini - birthplace of Pope Pius II. Charline will be happy to give you some suggestions of things to do and see. B

MONDAY, JUNE 1 – Following breakfast, we depart Pienza and make our way to the Chianti Classico region of Tuscany, and in particular, the town of Panzano. En route, we will stop at one of Charline’s favorite places, Villa Vignamaggio, home to one of the most important wine makers in the region. We’ll enjoy a cellar tour, wine tasting, and lunch. After lunch, we continue on Panzano, and our 19-room villa hotel, our home for the next two nights. The balance of the day and evening is at leisure to relax and to enjoy our swimming pool. B L

TUESDAY, JUNE 2- This morning we will enjoy a leisurely breakfast. Later, we learn about the local cuisine as we enjoy a cooking class at our hotel, taking advantage of the fresh local ingredients. We will enjoy the resulting lunch, created from our own efforts. The balance of the day is free to explore Panzano. Charline can point you in the right direction. Dinner is on your own this evening. World-famous butcher Dario Cecchino has restaurants nearby. Charline has a wonderful suggestion for beef lovers. B L

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 3 – After breakfast we will bid farewell to our villa hotel and head for Firenze! Upon arrival in Florence, we will check into our hotel. The balance of the afternoon is yours to shop and to explore this fascinating city. Be sure to get Charline’s suggestion for a great spot for dinner. B

THURSDAY, JUNE 4 – This morning, following breakfast at our hotel, our private guide Cinzia joins us again for an exclusive walking tour of Florence. We will explore some of the popular spots, but also some off-the-beaten-path places of this beautiful place. This is a great insider’s take on Florence. The rest of the day is yours for shopping. Charline will point you in the right direction and highlight some of the best places for the best prices. Leather, silk, jewelry, shoe stores, handbags, clothing – you will be overwhelmed. This evening, Charline has a treat in store, as she takes you to one of her favorite trattorias. B D

FRIDAY, JUNE 5 – Romeo, Romeo, where for art thou, Romeo! After breakfast, we check out of our hotel and head to Verona, famous for being the setting of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. We will make a stop for lunch on the way before arriving in Verona and checking into our hotel. Verona is a city in northern Italy’s Veneto region. We are staying just minutes from the famous Arena di Verona which dates from the 1st Century. The Arena is surrounded by restaurants and bars where you can enjoy a cool drink or bite to eat, and explore for the balance of the day and evening. B

SATURDAY, JUNE 6 – Good morning, Verona. You may wish not to eat too much at breakfast this morning. Soon after we will depart for our walking/ tasting tour. We will sample such local delicacies as Sopressa (a delicious, aged salami), wine, regional cheeses, gelato, and more, which will encompass our lunch. The balance of day and evening are free for shopping and exploring. Dinner is on your own this evening. B L

– Following breakfast, we say goodbye to Verona and make our way to the lovely lakeside resort town of Stresa on Lake Maggiore, just west of Milan, in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. This is our home for the next two nights. This area is known for its Alpine splendor. After checking in to our hotel, our time here is free to roam the tiny streets of the town, visit the three islands located in the middle of the spectacular lake, or to just relax at one of our hotel’s two swimming pools. B

MONDAY, JUNE 8 – Good morning, Stresa! Today is a completely free day to explore on your own, or if you prefer, head out with Charline to take in some of the town’s main attractions. This evening we will join together for our Farewell Dinner at our hotel. We will raise our glasses to new friends, experiences, and memories to last a lifetime. B D

TUESDAY, JUNE 9 – After breakfast, we will say farewell to charming northern Italy and make our way to nearby the Milan airport, and flight back home.
